Replit Adds Scheduled Daily Backups for Production Databases
On 4 September 2026 Replit added scheduled backups for production databases: one full restore point per day, kept for a retention period you choose (limits depend on plan), alongside a new Project Analytics pane. What it covers, what it doesn't, and the backup checklist every Replit app should still follow.
On 4 September 2026, Replit added scheduled backups for production databases. (What Is Replit?)
What you get
- One full restore point per day for your app's production database.
- Choose how long to keep them under Keep backups for in the production database settings. The available retention periods depend on your plan (Replit's example shows 7 days).
- Restores are covered in Replit's Data recovery documentation.
Also on 4 September: Project Analytics
A new Growth pane shows approximate visitor trends, popular pages, traffic sources, countries, browsers and devices for a published app. Turn on Enable analytics and republish to start collecting. On paid plans you can ask Agent to add custom events and funnels (sign-ups, purchases). (Analytics for Beginners)
Why daily backups matter for AI-built apps
AI agents make mistakes with data: a migration that drops a column, a script that updates every row, a "cleanup" that deletes the wrong records. A daily restore point turns those from catastrophes into a bad afternoon. (Stop an AI Agent Deleting Your Production Database)
What a daily backup doesn't cover
Be clear about the limits:
- Up to a day of data loss. A restore takes you back to the last daily snapshot; anything since is gone unless the platform also offers point-in-time recovery. (Postgres Point-in-Time Recovery)
- Same provider. Backups stored with the same platform don't protect you from account problems or platform outages. Keep an occasional off-site copy too — the 3-2-1 rule. (The 3-2-1 Backup Rule)
- Files and uploads live separately from the database. (Where to Store User Uploads)
- An untested backup is a hope. Restore one into a test copy at least once so you know the steps and how long it takes.
The checklist
- Turn on scheduled backups and pick the longest retention your plan allows.
- Export a copy off-platform regularly (a
pg_dumpyou store elsewhere). (How to Back Up a Postgres Database) - Test a restore.
- Take a manual backup before any big change or migration.

Replit Can Now Be Driven From Desktop MCP Clients, and Agent Gets Custom API Connectors
In September 2026 Replit made its platform usable from any compatible desktop MCP client — create, find, inspect, update and publish apps from your AI tool of choice (11 September) — and launched custom API connectors in beta for Pro and Enterprise teams (18 September). Plus newer models in Agent. What it enables and what to watch.
Lovable Cloud Now Records Database Changes as Migrations and Blocks Breaking Ones
From 7 October 2026, changes to Lovable Cloud databases are recorded as Drizzle migration files under drizzle/migrations/, and changes that could break a published app are refused unless the "Execute backward incompatible database migrations" permission is enabled. Why this is a big deal for AI-built apps, plus new resource-health warnings.
