Replit Can Now Be Driven From Desktop MCP Clients, and Agent Gets Custom API Connectors
In September 2026 Replit made its platform usable from any compatible desktop MCP client — create, find, inspect, update and publish apps from your AI tool of choice (11 September) — and launched custom API connectors in beta for Pro and Enterprise teams (18 September). Plus newer models in Agent. What it enables and what to watch.
Replit shipped two September 2026 features that make it easier to connect to the rest of your tools. (What Is Replit?)
Use Replit from desktop MCP clients (11 September)
Replit can now be used from any compatible desktop MCP client. Install the Replit plugin from your client's plugin page, and you can create, find, inspect, update and publish Replit apps without leaving the AI tool you prefer. (What Is MCP?)
In practice, that means an assistant in another app can, for example, check on your Replit app's status or publish a change as part of a wider task.
Custom API connectors (18 September, beta)
Pro and Enterprise teams can add custom connectors so Replit Agent can work with services that aren't in Replit's integration library:
- Go to Integrations → Add custom.
- Add the API endpoint and its authentication.
- Describe how Agent should use it.
The announcement doesn't detail how credentials are stored or what limits apply — check Replit's custom connectors documentation before connecting anything sensitive.
Things to think about
- Scope credentials tightly. Give connectors API keys with the minimum permissions — read-only where possible. An agent with a write-capable key to your CRM or payment provider can make real changes. (Principle of Least Privilege, What Is an API Key?)
- Watch for prompt injection. Data coming back from external APIs can contain instructions an agent might follow. (Prompt Injection in Coding Agents)
- Desktop MCP access is powerful access. Anything that can publish your app from another tool should be treated like a deploy key. (Secure MCP Servers)
Also in Replit this month
- New models in Agent (25 September): GPT-6 Sol, GPT-6 Luna Fast and Claude Opus 5.5 can be chosen when building and designing. (Claude Opus 5.5 Released)
- Scheduled production database backups (4 September). (Replit Scheduled Backups)
- Expanded audit logs for Enterprise — 65+ new events covering projects, deployments, secrets, connectors and Agent activity.

Replit Adds Scheduled Daily Backups for Production Databases
On 4 September 2026 Replit added scheduled backups for production databases: one full restore point per day, kept for a retention period you choose (limits depend on plan), alongside a new Project Analytics pane. What it covers, what it doesn't, and the backup checklist every Replit app should still follow.
