Claude Code vs Google Antigravity: Which AI Coding Agent Should You Use?
Google Antigravity is an agent-first IDE and CLI built around Gemini; Claude Code is Anthropic's agent for the terminal, IDEs, desktop and web. How they compare on workflow, models, pricing, free tiers and where they run — and how to choose.
Google's Antigravity and Anthropic's Claude Code are both "agent-first" coding tools: you describe the work, an AI agent plans it, edits files, runs commands and checks the result. They come at it from different directions.
Details below are as of October 2026. Both products change quickly — check Antigravity's site and Claude's pricing before deciding.
The short version
- Antigravity is Google's agent platform: a desktop IDE (a heavily modified VS Code), a CLI (
agy) and an SDK, built around Gemini models. It has a free individual tier. - Claude Code is Anthropic's agent, available in the terminal, VS Code, JetBrains, a desktop app, the web and mobile, built around Claude models. It needs a paid Claude plan or an API key.
What Antigravity is
Antigravity launched in November 2025 alongside Gemini 3. Its central idea is an agent manager: a view where you dispatch several agents to work in parallel across workspaces, and they report back with artifacts — task lists, implementation plans, screenshots and browser recordings you can review instead of reading raw logs. Agents can use the editor, a terminal and a built-in browser.
In May 2026 Google folded its open-source Gemini CLI into Antigravity: individual users moved to the new Antigravity CLI in June 2026. (What is Gemini CLI?)
It mainly runs Gemini models, and also offers some Claude and open-weight models.
How they compare
| Claude Code | Google Antigravity | |
|---|---|---|
| Made by | Anthropic | |
| Main models | Claude (Opus, Sonnet, Haiku) | Gemini, plus some others |
| Where it runs | Terminal, VS Code, JetBrains, desktop app, web, mobile | Own desktop IDE, CLI |
| Bring your own editor | Yes | Mostly its own IDE |
| Free tier | No | Yes, with weekly limits |
| Paid entry point | Claude Pro, $20/month | Google AI Pro, about $20/month |
| Parallel agents | Subagents, worktrees, desktop sessions, cloud sessions | Agent manager is the core UI |
| Extensibility | CLAUDE.md, hooks, skills, plugins, MCP | Rules, MCP, skills |
Workflow differences
Antigravity is built around supervising agents visually. You hand out tasks, watch them progress, and review artifacts like plans and screen recordings. If you like seeing what the agent did in a browser, this is its strength.
Claude Code is built around fitting into wherever you already work. It runs in your terminal, inside your existing editor, in a desktop app, or in the cloud. It leans on configuration you control — CLAUDE.md, hooks, skills, plugins and permission modes — and on scripting via headless mode. (What is Claude Code?)
Pricing
Antigravity has a free individual tier with Gemini access and weekly rate limits, and higher limits through Google's AI plans (AI Pro at about $20/month, and Ultra tiers above that).
Claude Code comes with Claude Pro ($20/month, or $17/month billed annually), Max (from $100/month), Team and Enterprise, or pay-per-token with an API key. (Claude Pro vs Max vs API key)
If your budget is zero, Antigravity is the one you can start with today.
Which to choose
- Budget is zero, or you're already in Google's ecosystem: Antigravity.
- You want to keep your editor and terminal, or work on a server over SSH: Claude Code.
- You want to supervise several agents visually: Antigravity's agent manager is designed for exactly this; Claude Code's desktop app covers similar ground.
- You want deep control over rules, automation and permissions: Claude Code.
- You care most about one model family: pick the tool built around it. Model quality shifts every few months, so try both on a real task from your own project.
Plenty of people use more than one. An AGENTS.md file lets several tools share the same project instructions. (AGENTS.md vs CLAUDE.md)
The summary
- Antigravity: Google's agent IDE + CLI, Gemini-first, free tier, agent manager with visual artifacts.
- Claude Code: Anthropic's agent everywhere you work, Claude models, paid, highly configurable.
- Try both on a real task before committing.
EasySpawn runs Claude Code on a persistent server alongside your app and database, so your agent keeps working when you close the laptop and the result is already deployed. See how it works or join the waitlist.
